Dave is a Strength and Conditioning coach, PDHPE Teacher and an avid runner from a family of lifelong runners.
His running journey started three decades ago at Little A’s, where he enjoyed success as a middle distance runner, before trading his spikes in for a basketball at age 16.
After a lengthy 17 year hiatus, and inspired by his older siblings’ running achievements, Dave took up running again at age 32, with goals of sub-20′ for 5k, sub-40′ for 10k and sub-60’ for the City 2 Surf. Enamoured with the sense of achievement he gained via running, in the seven years that followed, he has managed to bring his PB’s down to 4:10 for 1500, 9:05 for 3k, 15:57 for 5k and 33:56 for 10k — all in his late thirties.
Fuelled by his passion and respect for teaching and sports science, Dave’s coaching is driven by the desire to help create athletes who are self-sufficient and understand the why behind the what. His coaching philosophy revolves around the importance of individualisation, being disciplined and patient with progression, and focusing on long term, rather than short term, success when making decisions with athletes. He has not only experienced the benefits of this philosophy himself, but has seen it work on countless others.
Outside of running, Dave is proud husband of Emily and father to Daisy, and understands the challenges of balancing training with family and work life.
